RYAN DAVIS REMEMBERS THE RESULTS OF WRESTLEMANIA 31…
We are just 7 days away from WWE Night of Champions and before the KOW Staff previews the event, I want to look back on the results of WrestleMania 31 and see if anything really mattered in the long run. So, let’s begin!
| Daniel Bryan def. Bad News Barrett(c), R-Truth, Dean Ambrose, Luke Harper, Dolph Ziggler and Stardust for the Intercontinental Championship
This match did not matter. Bryan, who won the title, was unable to defend it just 1 month later due to injuries. Soon after, he forfeited the championship and it was won by Ryback, who was nowhere near this WrestleMania match. Bad News Barrett won King of the Ring after this, feuded with R-Truth, teamed with Stardust, and that’s about it. R-Truth feuded with Bad News Barrett and that’s about it. Dean Ambrose challenged Seth Rollins for the WWE World title(and lost) and teamed up with Roman Reigns, and that’s about it. Luke Harper did nothing for a while, then re-formed the Wyatt Family with Bray Wyatt, and that’s about it. Dolph Ziggler kissed Sheamus’ “arse,” got Lana, and that’s about it. As for Stardust, his father died and we thought WWE would bring Cody Rhodes back, but no, that didn’t happen. He faced “The Arrow” Stephen Amell at SummerSlam, formed a stable with The Ascension, and that’s about it.
| Randy Orton def. Seth Rollins
I remember this match. A mediocre match with a great finish. Looking back on it, this match perfectly describes the Seth Rollins WWE title run: he can’t win on his own. Randy Orton was in a Steel Cage with Rollins at Extreme Rules… faced Sheamus at SummerSlam, and that’s about it. Seth Rollins, on the other hand, cashed in his Money In The Bank to become WWE World Heavyweight champion and has been on an extremely stale and boring title reign(He had a good match with Cena at SummerSlam though). In the long run, this match doesn’t matter, it was just giving these two guys something to do.
| Triple H def. Sting
Yeah, this match. This match is the primary reason why I wanted to write this. Why on earth is Sting getting a title match next Sunday when he lost his first WWE match against Triple H? Why did Sting say he respects HHH when Hunter tried to break his face with a sledgehammer, had his DX group interrupt the match, and had Shawn Michaels superkick him? Out of all the matches on this card, this match made absolutely no sense. The outcome was and still is ridiculous and even contradicts what they are trying to do now.
| AJ Lee and Paige def. The Bella Twins
AJ retired, Paige went on to do nothing, and The Bellas Twins are leading Team Bella and Nikki may or may not break AJ’s title reign(we’ll see tomorrow on RAW).
| John Cena def. Rusev(c)
I’m not saying I’m okay with John Cena beating Rusev in this match, but if you’re going to take the title away from him, why would you have Cena drop it to the World Heavyweight champion? John came out with these Open Challenges and it would’ve made so much sense for John to drop it to a “young tiger” so they get a chance right after Cena raises the prestige of the title. You know, someone like KEVIN OWENS! But no, we’ll give the title to Seth Rollins, who is already the World champion. Give me a break.
| The Undertaker def. Bray Wyatt
Put this at #2 on matches that did not need to be on this card and the result didn’t matter. Bray Wyatt lost, so he didn’t get established. Undertaker won and then a couple months later, screwed Brock Lesnar out of the WWE World Heavyweight title and they had a rematch at SummerSlam. ‘Taker said he screwed over Brock because he and Paul Heyman kept bragging about their win at WrestleMania 30… Paul and Brock were bragging well before WrestleMania 31, why not confront them then? Why show up on the same exact show as Brock and not confront him?
| Seth Rollins def. Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar(c)
The result of this match actually did make sense for Seth Rollins, he won the title. There’s that, but what about Roman Reigns? Since WrestleMania, he’s sunk to the midcard and just a couple weeks ago at SummerSlam, he was in a tag team match. I guess main eventing WrestleMania didn’t help Roman Reigns much at all.
